Hiya, I tried out the new 'Forest Survival'. Some (hopefully constructive) comments - I think it needs some introduction to tell you what needs doing. What is the point of the generator? And the watchtower (from your YouTube videos - although I never found it)? Is it purely 'survive as long as possible'? There is no time displayed anywhere to gauge either how long you have survived or when day/night will start. Maybe start with the player a bit further away from the shop so they can see what it is? When you buy items, they appear in the next part of the shop which isn't clear the first time (so you end up pressing the button multiple times thinking it didn't work). How do you change the battery in the torch having bought another one? The night is too long and the day too short. It would be nice if the torch illuminated more. When the night first fell, I walked forward until I found the perimeter and wandered all the way around but nothing happened (it was 5 minutes of near darkness wondering if the game worked). Until you survive a few nights, you don't have enough credit to buy a weapon so it is a forgone conclusion that you will die if you meet the monster.  When I did die, I respawned and kept going until the morning then was told I failed and would get no credit. It felt like I wasted 5 minutes. Maybe it should restart in the daytime/start of the day?

Hello, and welcome Dobsy! I appreciate these comments very much. I wouldn't say its "Survive for as long as possible", it's more of a mix between that and "Survive to gain points, to eventually kill the monster".

I can spawn the player further away from the shop, and I'll make it more obvious as to where Item's spawn. I'll probably add a leaderboard to count your survivals/deaths, and a watch in the shop so you can see when Day ends and when Night starts.

You gave me an idea, I'll spawn sticks around the map that you can collect to defend yourself against the monster. These sticks will have limited durability however.

For the torch, after it runs out of battery I'm pretty sure you can just insert another one through the bottom but I'll try that out for myself.

The short days and long nights was a design I made on purpose. I memorized each location of the map so I didn't get lost, but it's probably because I'm the one who made the game lol. I'll add a map so players can hopefully have a better time navigating.

That's all I have to say! Cheers Dobsy you are the best player I've ever had.

Hi, thanks for the comments.

Just to add, you might want to update the 'how to play' section on the main menu to include instructions for the forest part.

Maybe the best update (to the forest) that I can think of would be to give more warning of the monster. Typically it is attacking you by the time you realise it is there. It is quite dark even with the torch.

Oh, I played the story again and when the monster approaches me in the TV room, I moved to the other side of the couch and it no longer moved. It was a stale mate with me on one side and it in the middle of the couch on the other. Until the toxic air got me just before 6am. I nearly made it.

There is a spelling mistake on the clipboard - 'Oxyegn'

I'll get to it. Thank you

Can you actually survive the night?

I've beat it on my own.

Would you like for me to implement a difficulty setting?

or is there a bug that makes it impossible to beat

I wasn't sure how to defeat the monster. It turns up quite early on and outruns me. I put the lights on but it doesn't care. There is nothing in the drawers (like a gun).

I couldn't put a board across the open window (where I thought it came in).

Can I leave the house? The monster got me when I did.

Hey Dobsy, I've updated the build (at the time of this message) a few minutes ago!

I've implemented a difficulty setting which hopefully resolves issues for new players.

There are various lightswitches in the house, you must hit the one closest to the window. (1 lightswtich guards 1 - 2 windows)

Yes! You can leave the house. You should leave the house shortly after scaring the creature with a lightswitch to pull on the generator lever to keep it from running out.

I like your idea of adding weapons in drawers, I'll keep that in mind. (Drawers for now are just there to look pretty)

I fixed the collisions of the board. and If you leave the house at night you slowly loose HP because of the toxic air.

The running speed of the player is most useful for tasks in the house, and not for outrunning the creature. I made this an exception on easy mode.

Thank you very much for your constant feedback and support. It is appreciated!

Hi,

Thanks for the mention on v2!

I've still not made it to 6am. I got to 3am a few times.

Maybe slow the creature speed and prolong the agony of it chasing you   ;-)

The 'scribble' sound (to show the next task) is drowned out by the wheel turning sound so it can be easy to miss. Maybe delay it until the wheel stops being moved?

After the power went out, I left the house, put the fuses in the correct place and put the lever up but the power level didn't move from empty.

On a couple of occasions, a board fell through the ground when I was carrying a few at a time and dropped the odd one outside.

It still scares me when the monster catches up!

You're getting better at the game, congrats!

I'll add a skip start/tutorial option soon as to not go through it every playthrough.

The power level bug was a mistake from my part (in the script there were unused variables that caused it to break) and it'll be fixed next patch.

For the physics of the board I'll see what I can do

Cheers dobsy!
